I realize that it is a little late in the semester for this to work, but I just had a thought.

Why don't/haven't individual student organizations like the Greek Council, the Residence Hall Association, etc. release statements to the press in support of the Faculty Senate's resolution?  And the Alumni Association as well??

What time IS it over there?  And are you associated with any Egyptologists there, esp ones from Memphis or from Univ of Chicago?  If so, give them regards from a friend of William Murnane.  I miss him still.

Sorry for the off-thread reply, Cairo always makes me think of W.M.

No, nothing as interesting as the University of Chicago.  Just a school teacher at an American school here in the biggest city in the world.   As far as the time thing - I'm eight hours ahead of Mississippi, which really sucks sometimes because when something is mentioned about happening in an hour (example the 6 p.m. news on WDAM), it is WAY past my bedtime and I have to wait until the next morning to check out the websites.

I just updated the links page--the latest breaking news page, if you would like to go take a look.

I am so proud to have you posting here.

I graduated from USM in 92.  I am proud to have "Uncle Aubrey's" signature on my diploma.  I WISH there was more I could do.  With the banking system here in Egypt, I can't donate money.  With the distance, I can't attend protests.  All I can do from here is to make sure that the people I attended USM with are aware of what is going on.  Oh!  And I've written the governor a few times.  When I started hearing things about what was going on and received emails from some folks "in the know", I decided that I needed to stay informed.  I wrote the Alumni Association and did not receive a satisfactory reply at all.  I've been away from the 'Burg for nearly 5 years now.  THe place never really leaves your soul.

I know exactly what you mean and couldn't agree more.  I think the fact that we have USM and Hattiesburg in our souls is why this current situation is so upsetting.  We don't want it ruined for that one day when we go "soul searching" and end up back in the 'Burg where we belong.

Wow, this is a really nice thread to spend a little time in. Thanks.

I've been away for more than twenty years and still think fondly on my time there.  One of my goals is to return to Hattiesburg when I "grow up and decide what I want to do with my life!"  To the wonderful people who are working so hard, like Present Professor and Fire Shelby, please take care of our town and university so we have something wonderful to come home to.  Thanks for everything.

Let us know when you come back to town --

I think maybe no more than five years from now we need a reunion.

And FS: I am thinking that when the statue comes down and we have our party, everybody on this forum who wants might wear a placard with their board ID. And for those who are out of town: we should set a table up with their placards and name (and maybe grad date if they want).

It would certainly make a nice Homecoming celebration when there is a new administration in office.
