After my reply to Exit 13, I had a thought...which is rare these days.
SFT berated Horace for not getting the polymer undergrad degree certified as an engineering degree. But now that SFT is in power it has never even been considered as a proposal before the IHL Board. (It is different when you are the one leading the charge - right Shelby.)
Olive branch:
The IHL could agree to grant the polymer program full recognition and support for as an engineering degree in exchange for SFT stepping down as Dictator and returning to the lab, effective July 1.
Shelby could brag about his accomplishment and the IHL could stop a lot of discord in higher education in MS.
Think about it...now JSU has an engineering program. So 3 of the 4 comprehensive universities have engineering. Why not give USM an opportunity.
One argument is the state can not afford another engineering degree program. Well, for once take it from UM or MSU. They have sure been the recipient of enought of our programs when AKL was president (early 1980's).
OR, USM could just say we will fund it ourselves. Make SFT work for it! He likes a challenge.
If Polymer Science is the great source of revenue that Shelby and his supporters claim it is, there should be no trouble running it as an Engineering program.
