Butko, Peter < 1. Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at USM, product of a national job search, and member of the President’s University Council; 2. webster’s new hero, Butko left the first-ever PUC meeting after just 15 minutes, telling The Hattiesburg American that the meeting had a kindergarten feel to it, and that it looked like a monumental waste of time.

Hudson foreplay < USM Provost Tim Hudson’s practice of accompanying politicos (e.g., Scott Ross, etc.) and others on all expenses paid junkets (i.e., on USM’s dime) to the USM abbey in France in order to win political favor from them for use at a later date.

Spring Commencement 2004 < marked by many small protests, including faculty/students wearing Impeach Thames stickers on their caps, a no quarter banner displayed at the end by departing Professor Wilson-Kimber (see babbs’ list), and several instances where students refused to shake Shelby Thames’ hand, including one between Thames and Rachel Quinlivan wherein she told him she couldn’t show him that kind of respect after the way he had treated so many so badly over the past several months. At USMGC, things became confused when bad weather exposed some of Ken Malone’s shortcomings — apparently no contingency plans were made, and parents/graduates were sent scrambling around by the rain.

they’re just jealous of Shelby’s accomplishments < argument made by pro-Thames citizens built on the premise that USM faculty are simply jealous of the professional accomplishments (in the polymer science area) of Shelby Thames, and, to hide their own professional shortcomings, the faculty are doing everything possible to bring down his USM presidency (see also a day’s work for a day’s pay, Shelby’s the boss, and those liberal college profs).
