I wanted to write an update for you before I turned in. First, I wanted to shed some light on Judge Cooley's personal situation. I note that a number of you have shown interest in his wife being so young --- 26 years old as a matter of fact. Here's most of the story on that.
A young woman --- 20 years old --- came to our law school 6 years ago from a foreign country (I can't say where). She was in serious danger, fleeing a terrible regime. She wanted to claim assylum in the US, and was guided by someone at our law school in doing so. To make this part of the story shorter, let me just say that our faculty gave her some bad advice on immigration law. The young woman was about to be sent back to her homeland, and as she viewed it, to her death. Judge Cooley stepped in at that point and married her so that she would retain the US citizenship she wanted so desperately.
Their plan was to stay married for just a few short weeks. Given the situation of her citizenship status prior to the marriage, Judge Cooley's counsel advised him that the marriage had to be a "true/complete marriage" (I think you know what I mean). Well, to make a long story short (again), when Judge Cooley fulfilled his end of that bargain, the young woman wanted out of the deal to get a divorce. She wanted to stay married to him. So, you see this is not the typical old guy after the hot young gal story. In fact, it's quite the opposite. TMC is truly a red-blooded American male, and this woman wanted her citizenship with all the rights and privileges thus entitled to her (or however that thing you hear at graduation goes). So, to make a long story short, she ultimately won Judge Cooley over and they remain married (with a daughter) today.
Back to the task at hand. We are going to try to be at the President's University Council meeting tomorrow if at all possible. We do, however, have a number of obligations. We have meetings with Dennis Pierce to go over design plans out at the Canebrake lots, we have a working lunch scheduled with Don Cotten (Judge Cooley wants to have that right on campus, on SFT's turf, with who might possibly soon be the new sheriff in town), and we have back-to-back appointments with a massage therapist. Tomorrow's meeting could be problematic for us, but we're going to try and make it work out.
