This may be old news, but I am hearing from friends away from Hattiesburg, i. e., Houston and Atlanta that they are getting mail from Thames explaining his version of the present situation at USM. I have noted that there have been several letters to the HA from alumns from afar that have lifted his talking points from these emails. I am a lifetime member of the Alumni Association and have not received any of these emails. Obviously, they are selecting alums out of the area to spread their propaganda. Anyone else heard of these out of state alums receiving emails from Shelbo?
Can you obtain and post one of these letters? I just checked with my Dad and my son, both out-of-state USM alums, and neither had received anything from Thames. I do wonder about the selection criteria. What is the common feature of those who received letters? Big donors? Were they asked to write letters of support (for Thames) to the Mississippi newspapers, and/or the IHL board members?
The person I know that got one is the daughter of a distinguished professor (now deceased) who lives in Houston. As far as I know, she is a life member but may be a major financial contributor. Will talk with her mother and try to get her to send me a copy.
I got one of these emails back when all the fur first started to fly. It was an email from Thames but it was actually sent to my wife and I, both USM alumni, through "Bullet Bob" Pierce of the Alumni Association who purportedly was sending it to alumni on behalf of Thames. I'm not a big financial contributor nor am I a lifetime Alumni Ass'n member.
It contained the usual predictable drivel we've heard since then from Thames. The most comical part was that it went on an on about how the alumni could communicate directly with Thames if they had any questions or concerns as the saga played out in the media, but the email DID NOT HAVE Thames' e-mail address nor did it have any way to reply to the email!! So much for "open communication"...
Not sure, really. Since my wife and I both got it separately at the same home email address, and we're both alumni, I figured it was a mass mailout. Did no other alumni on the board get this email a couple months ago?
The email I got from Thames through Bullet Bob Pierce at Alum Ass'n has now been posted by another recipient over on the "Alumni Association Statement" thread.
