I heard yesterday or the day before that the first lawsuit against him since his arrival there is about to be brought.

I'm sorry, but I just think that the negativism about everyone in any kind of position is going too far. Thames, understandable, Dvorak by association, maybe the Kenbot. But it seems that everyone is slammed, every dean, every member of the administration, what are we going to start lynching the chairs?

Please, ranting against everyone makes this board look bitter. Save it and focus at the one person the board is about then pick on individuals selectively because of documented and verifiable transgressions. Look at current and pending appointments both admin and those selected by the faculty to make sure what is voted for and supported in the future is clean.

I simply pointed out he's about to get sued. That's not slamming him on this board, just reporting. Looks like the rant will occur in a court of law.

Old Admin, is it okay to report that Doty may be in with Thames and Co. in stalling and/or maneuvering against Bobby Chain re the Trent Lott Center? I would think so. If so, you should perhaps go read the Tim Ryan post by Go Chain Go.

FYI: Here's what I said about Doty on the Tim Ryan thread. What are CBED faculty members saying?

See the problem here is that this just doesn't sound like Doty. Oh, I could see him trying to angle for something like this. But that's a far cry from telling Bobby Chain what's what and that it's final.

Old Admin.,

Surely, by now, you see that trust is gone on this campus. Administrators must prove that they have the faculty's and student's interests at heart - that has been assumed too often to the detriment of the university.

Haven't you figured out yet? Too many administrators don't have the faculty's and student's interests at heart. They look out for themselves and their cronies. Doty's a prime example.

But, old admin makes a good point. To oversimplify, it is similar to the fable of the boy who cried, "Wolf!" Granted, there may be more wolves out there than I'd care to acknowledge; but there's only one, Big Bad Wolf. Stay focused!

It is one thing to be skeptical and wary. It is another thing to be openly and vocally hostile.

Game analogies are misleading. This is not a struggle between white hats and black hats, angels and demons. Motives are complex and alliances may change. Don't burn bridges. See threads extolling the virtues of Bobby Chain.

SFT has limited impact on the day to day lives of most faculty. However, Deans -- for better or worse -- impact our everyday functions at the University. Dr. Doty and his cronies, make the faculties lives much worse and poorer (intellectually and financially) -- unless you are a "friend."

Doty may be a bit rough around the edges, but he cares about his employees and quality in CBED. He fights the powers (TH, KM) daily who try to run his college like the UofP. Recall SFT's cronies reside in CBED...have a little sympathy and a little less criticism. Say what you will about him, but he is doing the RIGHT THING. TH is way more frightening than SFT.

The other thread on Doty's challenges with the SFT administration seems right on target. Don't know much about the building issue but Doty is not an idiot. Doubt Doty would demand anything of a USM donor and supporter like Bobby Chain. Doty is trying to raise money -- why would he offend Bobby Chain?

Are other Deans fighting the good fight or burying their heads in the sand?

Give Doty a break and go after the real bad guys.

Not sure about all that. Go to the CBED webpage and all you can link --- besides econ develop --- is Doty's vita. I hear he hasn't done a whole lot except talk about how wonderful he is. He pee-peed all over his faculty in the first few weeks in charge (I got this straight from one of the profs there).

you should stop to think that there might be a difference in how some feel about Doty (e.g. COAL faculty who have Pood to fight for them) and how people in Doty's own college might feel about him. As No Kidding pointed out, they live with him on a day-to-day basis. I hear that their faculty was pretty much split 50-50 on two candidates when the search went on.
