From the Hattiesburg American online (5/21/04):

College Board supports Thames

American Senior Writer

JACKSON - Shelby Thames spent about two hours Thursday behind closed doors with the state College Board before returning to Hattiesburg with the board's support.

The executive session, which board president Roy Klumb said was to discuss personnel, follows almost three months of vocal criticism of Thames by some of the university's 600 faculty.

After the meeting, Thames said he will continue dialogue and discussion with faculty and other campus constituencies and has no plans to resign.

"I ask the Southern Miss campus to join with me and make it the world class university it can be," he said.

What is the likelihood that a motion will be made at the next meeting of the PUC to turn the PUC over to elected representatives from other campus bodies?  What is the likelikelihood that the motion will be approved if it is made.  Can David Johnson please give us some feedback on these questions?  We haven't heard from him for a while; I hope he hasn't decided to tune us out because a few people attacked him.  It would be good to hear from you again, David.

I thought the same thing, Invictus.  Perhaps Lisa Mader forgot to refresh Shelboo on his talking points prior to the meeting.
