I have watched this site for a while, resisting the urge to respond. But now I must. You have some good strategies, but you lack facts. You think Lisa is harmless, but you greatly misunderstand. She has always been Shebby's confidant and now even more so. Lisa is his remaining ally that he has not stabbed in the back, but she cannot stand pressure. Put the pressure on and watch her cumble!
It seems that I have written everyone from the IHL board to Governor Barbour about this. If the person is a known Republican, I went at it from the point of view that education is key to economic development. If the person is a known Democrat, I've gone on about education for education's sake. I've written Barbour twice. One of his aides actually responded the first time. "We are carefully monitoring the situation. Blah! Blah! Blah!" I've written the Alumni Association board and only got ONE response. Not being a resident of Mississippi (and therefore not a regitered Mississippi voter), I don't know what else I can do from Egypt. I've passed on the word to all of the Alums that I've kept in contact with. I've signed online petitions. I've offered to pay Noel Polk's salary for his 15 minutes of being university president. (HEE HEE!)
Mader cannot handle the least bit of stress. Keep pressure on her and watch her crumble. I would suggest you look at the raises given out in her department over the last year. You will be very surprised.

Eagle, you've done a lot. The IHL didn't even acknowledge letters, petition, etc. from the faculty, so no surprise they didn't acknowledge you. At least you got a response from the Governor, which is more than I did. I still think letters from "outside" are important, but the earlier suggestions about meeting with IHL members individually and talking to local people one-on-one are the way to go, at least while school is out. But folks, I found out today you have to keep those elevator speeches short -- the interest is not what we would like it to be. I'm anxiously waiting for more responses to the SACS thread. It's been disucussed here before but I can't find the threads. I think the threat of losing accreditation may wake up even our IHL. (One hopes.)

LVN,
The SACS-related issues are important. But the pro-Thames majority on the Board may not care about USM losing accreditation. (Some of them probably want USM to lose accreditation.)
What I doubt the IHL Board can withstand is advance publicity, to the effect that getting USM to lose its accreditation is the Board's implied goal. And the SACS process takes time. So there will be plenty of opportunities to get the accreditation issue into the media, before the ax finally falls.

Robert,
It's my understanding that if a school loses its accreditation, its students become ineligible for all kinds of financial aid. Is this not correct? If it IS correct, then the IHL cannot idly sit back and watch USM lose its accreditation without a revolt by students and parents. It's my understanding that it has been these kinds of pressures that have put the fear of God into other boards at other schools when SACS has threatened accreditation.
There is a long list of criteria that the institution must go through before that happens to students, but Robert would be able to best answer ur question.
Sheeby shot be ousted for the simple fact hat he does not ccare about students, he only cares about his fat little self (elf).

I'm not sure that the majority of IHL board members would want USM to lose SACS accreditation because of the implications for Title IV aid. What they may not understand is that "recovering" from a "bad" self study (i.e., responding to various recommendations) can be a very expensive proposition in its own right.
Good points about the consequences of losing accreditation.
I take these as further signs that the Board hasn't thought through a lot of what it is doing. Demolishing big chunks of USM, which several Board members appear to want, will result in loss of accreditation. And I guess they won't feel about that, when it hits them, the same way Governor Bilbo did in the early 1930s. (He didn't care.)
But then I'm not sure that the Board even has a clear understanding of tuition as a source of revenue...
Hey everytime someone sees her out drinking during the week request the next day she have to be tested at 8 a.m. Better yet take her picture with your photo phone and send in to the news media. Then on the other hand maybe she doesn't have to comply with Shelby's rules lack the rest.
Buy her another round, then call the police when she leaves and tell them a drunk is driving a ______ car with tag number ___. They just barely missed running over someone. They are headed _____ on Hardy Street.
