Just heard that the economic development department is now offering an executive MBA program. The apparently did an end-run around the usual channels in the CBED and are now offering a program in competition with the usual ones in the CBED. They are already setting up summer courses, etc.
Sounds like a good reason to leave your private sector job... a brief foray into the academic world for some additional business training from geographers and polymer scientists........

I have heard this is true as well. I have also heard that the traditional MBA program has admitted only about 10 students for fall so far, about 30-40 below normal at this time. Someone told me the tent might get folded up on that program late this summer.
You're right, if the exec program by econ deve gets off the ground, kiss national business school accred goodbye.
Did you know that the deptl. secretary for ec deve is the instructor of record on several courses offered by that group, including the upcoming set of courses for the executive MBA degree?

Gone again, pulled this from the site... I believe the names in bold are no longer even at USM --- website needs some sanitizing...
Ties to Professional Economic Development Associations
The Department of Economic Development is closely tied to a number of professional economic development associations. These national, regional, and state associations provide opportunities for our students to make presentations, to maintain and enhance their professional skills, to network with development professionals, and to uncover job opportunities.
The American Economic Development Council (www.aedc.org) funds and supports the Economic Development Research Institute and the Economic Development Review. Both of these are housed in the Department of Economic Development. Dr. Mark Miller is editoral team leader of the Review, and Dr. David Kolzow is director of the Institute. AEDC also supports the New South Economic Development Course, housed in the department. Dr. Ron Swager is director of the New South Economic Development Course.

I don't find this any more bizarre, or inappropriate, than recruiting casino employees to serve as adjunct instructors in the new casino/gaming management program at USM-GC. It's consistent with the current administration's never-ending quest to save money (=academic mediocrity).
A "faculty member" in economic development/workforce training was "hooded" last friday at graduation. She is now a tenure-track faculty in the department, and the woman that hooded her is now her colleague. Looks like the Dotyster has firmly grasped the idea of a USM national search.

Yep, you gotta love that tenure-track position that's advertised for 2 weeks, to start immediately. What, no "national search?" At least this time it doesn't say "Ph.D. preferred."
I'm sure they got tons of applications from all those folks out there who have PhDs in "current issues." What a dynamic, ever-changing discipline! (sarcasm alert)
